Praying the Psalms: Psalm 148

Psalm 148 is excitement. Pure exhilarating, gut wrenching excitement.  It’s the kind of excitement that happens when you manage to get your head out of this world and get a glimpse into the pure Kingdom of God.  It’s like walking next to God, seeing him in all His glory and then trying to find the words to express it. It’s the kind of excitement I experience when he reveals to me the way that he sees me, or when you suddenly realise that God is really, really there!  I just want to jump up and down and scream with elation.

Hallelujah, Glory to God, Lift Him up, Lift Him high!  The Psalm shows us a glimpse into the heavenlies where everyone is so overwhelmed with love for this amazing God, everyone including angels, warriors, the sun, moon and stars, the heavens, the clouds and of course, people, us.  Everything in its perfect time and place, even animals and the earth itself.  As Jesus said, even if we all stopped praising Him ‘even the rocks would cry out’ in response to God’s amazingness.

The lightning, hail, snow and clouds are in response to God’s glory and operate at his command.  The rainbow is a testimony to his goodness.  He created everything by the power of His word.  He spoke it and it came into being. His name is the ONLY name worth praising.  And he loves us so much, we are His!

Oh, if only we could continually walk in the intimate presence of God at all times.
