Week 3: Berserko
Roamin'
Paul writes his letter to the Romans as a way of introduction, but also to be as clear as he can be about how God has acted in Jesus and why God has acted in Jesus. The second half of chapter is primarily about why God has acted.
God is incapable of diluting sin. He’s against it. It ruins the perfect relationship between the Creator and the created. The result is wrath. The reaction of a perfectly holy God to unholiness. His wrath (John Stott writes) is his holy hostility to evil, his refusal to condone it or come to terms with it, his just judgment upon it.
The second half of Romans 1 talks about what happens when man walks away from God and it aint pretty!
BUT…the depth of God’s opposition to sin, demonstrates by his wrath, also demonstrates the depth of his grace in Jesus. A grace that triumphs over sin and death.
