Praying the Psalms: Psalm 48

Pretty tough to live life in a vacuum.

Just very quickly on that point, I am still waiting for the day when I will be required to vacuum up a 16 pound bowling ball. I look forward to the day when I can smile at Amanda and say “our choice of vacuum was justified hun”.

What I mean to say is, when big things happen to you, you take notice. When big things happen to your friends, you take notice. Somehow, you find yourself thinking and praying, or at the very least having an awareness that the best moments, are made sweeter when shared.

Psalm 48 on first read appears to be about mountains, ships, and these things called citadels. On second, third and fourth read though, I found that it confirmed that not only is God, in his greatness, our fortress, but as we see in verse 3, God is in her citadels.

The thing that I loved about this is that if a citadel is a fortress,
God therefore is in that fortress. He is not only our fortress, but
part of Him is in every single detail of the fortress.

It’s a great feeling knowing that God will protect us, but so much more intimate, and so much more assured that every element that we use to protect ourselves is God breathed, and God inspired.

This small truth brought me to a place of thanksgiving for what we enjoy every day. God places people in our life, who have God inherent in their character, to hold our hand and waddle through life with, to protect us, and at times for us to protect them.

That’s a great thing about getting married, or having intimate
relationships with God fearing, God inspired people, because there is the wonderful privilege of being able to grow and be protected by a person who has God written all over him or her. That, I believe is a great piece of our own individual citadels.

The confidence and assuredness that springs forth from a well
protected, secure environment will indeed allow us to say with
confidence, Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise.

A big thumbs up to our buddies Karyn and Pete; I love that God is so obviously inherent in the both of you.
